新加坡的圖書館真是無所不在, 所以, 常常會些媽媽說, 幹麻買書, 帶小孩上圖書館才重要. 可是, 有些書包準你借不到, 或者說, 運氣好才會讓你借到, 像Geronimo Stilton老鼠叢書, 就很難在圖書館借到. 而一些優良閱讀刊物, 建議媽媽們還是買幾本給孩子們看看. 前陣子我們學校介紹學童們購買由Roald Dahl執筆的系列故事書, 還仔細列舉它的優點, 看到這樣的優良讀物, 真的很不錯, 值得買一本回家.

Why Literature Appreciation?

Literature is integrated into the curriculum so that if it can be utilised as a vehicle through which students:

• Develop a favorable attitude toward books as an enrichment to their lives
  
• Gain new vacabulary and syntax
  
• Become familier with story and text structures

• Empathise with other people's feeling and problems
  
• Express their ideas in oral and written forms, and better enjoy their literacy experiences.
  
• Generate their own ideas and contribute to thoughtful conversation about what they read.
  
• Develop themselves to become thoughtful, competent, and critical readers
